The cards

In the Skip-Bo game you have 144 cards, numbered 1 to 12. There are also 18 Skip-Bo cards. So in total there are 162 cards.

The different stacks

Placing the stacks is important. The draw pile is in the middle. Next to this, four building piles are made. These are used by all players throughout the game. Each player has their own deck and they have up to four discard piles.

It is important to note that the building piles and the discard piles are built up during the game. This means that there are no stacks at the beginning of the game. These are only formed during the game.

Start of the game

Each player is dealt a deck of 30 cards (20 cards if there are more than 4 players). This deck of cards lies in front of each player face down and the top card turned over so that it is exposed. To the left of it must be room for the maximum 4 discard piles.
The rest of the cards go into the draw pile, which is placed face down in the center. Next to it must be room for the maximum 4 building piles.
The youngest player then takes a turn, then the next players follow

Turn

At the beginning of a turn, the player replenishes the cards in his hand to at least 5. So on the first turn you take 5 cards.
Then try to put as many cards as possible on the building piles. But that is only allowed in the order 1-12, so it must start with 1. A Skip-Bo card may be used for any number.
You can do this with the card from your stock, a card from your hand, or cards from your discard piles. But only the top card may be used.
If a player can remove all 5 cards from his hand, he may immediately take 5 new cards from the draw pile and continue playing.
If number 12 is placed on a building pile, that building pile is cleared. As soon as the draw pile is empty, the cards from all cleared building piles are shuffled and placed on the draw pile.

If the player cannot do more, he must discard 1 card on 1 of his discard piles. After that is the next player.

Winner

The winner is the player who is the first to get rid of all the cards from his deck. The number of cards that each player has left on his deck can be kept up to date on speluitslagen.nl.
