Preparation

A dealer is chosen. This places the 2 overview cards so that everyone can see them clearly.
If you use this app to keep score, you simply put down your phone. Everyone can then see which phase they have to reach. You can also share the game via email or social media, so that each player can see it on their own phone.
Then the cards are shuffled and each player receives 10 cards face down.

The rest of the cards go into a pile face down. This is the draw pile. Turn the top card of the draw pile over next to the draw pile. This is the discard pile.

Start of the game

The player to the left of the dealer starts and the game is played clockwise. The player whose turn it is:
  • Take a card
  • Puts down his phase
  • Puts cards to other phases
  • Puts away a card
If you have previously received a pest card from another player, you may do nothing other than put that pest card on the discard pile and your turn is over.

Step 1: Draw a card

At the start of a turn, you always take a card from the draw pile, or take the top card from the discard pile. You may not take a pest card from the discard pile.

Step 2: Laying down a phase

You play for one phase each round. You must complete these in order. If you can lay down the phase you are currently playing for, you may place it face up on the table in front of you.

There are different phases:
  • Phase 1: AAA + BBB (2 sets of 3)
  • Phase 2: AAA + ABCD (1 set of 3 and 1 series of 4)
  • Phase 3: AAAA + ABCD (1 set of 4 and 1 series of 4)
  • Phase 4: ABCDEFG (1 series of 7)
  • Phase 5: ABCDEFGH (1 series of 8)
  • Phase 6: ABCDEFGHI (1 series of 9)
  • Phase 7: AAAA + BBBB (2 sets of 4)
  • Phase 8: CCCCCCC (7 cards of the same suit)
  • Phase 9: AAAAA + BB (1 set of 5 and 1 set of 2)
  • Phase 10: AAAAAA + BBB (1 set of 5 and 1 set of 3)
A set consists of cards with the same number, the color does not matter. A series consists of cards with consecutive numbers, the color does not matter. A choice card can be used instead of any other card to complete the phase.

Step 3: Add cards to other phases

As soon as you have placed your own phase, you may place cards that match that phase, or to the phase of other players. So in a phase of a set, cards with the same number may be placed. A series may be connected. In a color phase, cards of the same color may be placed.

Step 4: Discard a card

Finally, the player places a card on the discard pile. You may also place a pest card for another player instead.

The Plague Card

A player who has been dealt a plague card may, as soon as it is his turn, only place the plague card on the discard pile and then his turn is over.

Additional points about the plague card:
  • If the first card in a turn on the discard pile is a plague card, the first player skips a turn
  • A plague card may not be taken from the discard pile
  • A player who already has a plague card cannot get another one

The winner of a round

The winner of a round is the player who has played away all his cards and places his last card on the discard pile. The round is then over.

The winner gets 0 points. The points of the other players are determined by the cards that the player still has in his hand:
  • 5 points for each card 1-9
  • 10 points for each card 10-12
  • 15 points for each pest card
  • 25 points for each joker
The points are counted and written down. The players who have completed their phase play the next round for the next phase. Those who have not yet put down their phase try to complete the same phase again in the next round.

End of the game

The game ends after one or more players have completed phase 10 in a round. The winner of the game is the player who has completed phase 10 and has the fewest points.

Keeping track of points

You can keep track of the points obtained and the phases that each player is in on a piece of paper.

You can keep track of the scores of all players on speluitslagen.nl. You fill in the number of points of each player for each round. Then the phase that each player is in is automatically determined. The phases are also displayed on the screen. With what needs to be achieved for that phase.
