Rules for Uno

Cards

The game contains 108 cards:
- 19 cards of each color (blue, green, red and yellow)
- 8 Take-Two cards
- 4 Draw-Four cards
- 8 Reverse Cards
- 8 Skip-Turn-Over cards
- 4 Choice cards

The game

Each player takes a card. Whoever takes the highest card starts dealing. Action cards count as 0 here.
When the cards are shuffled, each player receives 7 cards.
The rest of the suit is placed (face down) on the STICK. The top card of the stock is turned over and is the first card of a new pile.

The player to the dealer's left starts. This player must place a card on the face up pile that is the same in color or symbol as the card that is already there. For example, if that card is a red 7, then the player must put down a red card, or a 7 of a different color.

If the player cannot make up, he must take a card from the STICK. If he can play that card, he may continue. If not, it's the next player's turn.

Action cards

The action cards and their meaning:
  • Take-Two card
When this card is played, the next player must draw two cards and skip his turn. This card may only be placed on top of a card of the same suit or another Draw Two card. If the card is turned at the start of the game, the same rule applies.
  • Reverse card
This reverses the direction of the game. The next player is therefore on the other side of the current one. If the card is turned at the beginning of the game, the dealer plays first and the game continues counterclockwise.
  • Skip-Turn-Over card
The player whose turn it is after laying this card is skipped. The card may only be placed on a card of the same suit or on another Skip-Turn-Over. If this player is turned at the beginning of the game, then it is the turn of the player after the original first player.
  • Choose card
  • The player who plays this card calls out a suit and the game continues with that. If this card is turned at the beginning of the game, the player to the left of the dealer determines the color with which he/she plays.
  • No-Four card
The next player must draw 4 cards from the stock and skip his turn. This card may only be played by someone who has no more cards in his hand of the suit from the face up pile. He may have cards of the same number or action cards. If the player is caught that he still had cards in the requested suit, he incurs a penalty, see 'Penalties'.
If this card is turned at the beginning of the game, it is returned to the pile and a new card is turned.

The end

When a player has only one card left, he must call 'Uno' before placing his second to last card on the face up pile. If he forgets, he must take two cards from the stock. But only if he is caught (See "Punishments").
When a player gets rid of all cards, he wins the round. The points of all other players are counted and entered on speluitslagen.nl. The winning player gets 0 points.
If the last card played is a Draw-Two or Take-Four card, the next player must still draw those cards and that is added to his score.

Scores

- All number cards: The value of the cards
- Take-Two: 20 points
- Take-Four: 50 points
- Reverse: 20 points
- Skip-Turn-Skip: 20 points
- Choice card: 20 points.

Punishments

A player who forgets to call 'Uno', but recovers before another player catches him will not be penalized.
A player who plays a wrong card and is noticed by other players must withdraw the card, take two cards from the stop and his turn is skipped.
If a player plays a Take-Four card and that is not allowed according to the player who must draw 4 cards, the player must show his cards. If it was not allowed, the player in violation must draw 4 cards himself. If the card is played correctly, the person who wanted to see the cards must take 2 extra cards.

House rules

These are the official game rules. But there are some rules that are sometimes applied differently:
  • When a player plays a Draw Two card, the next player may also place a Draw Two card on top and must then draw 4 cards
  • Same word Take-Four cards
