Rules of Checkers

Start of the game

Place the checkerboard in such a way that the corner square at the bottom left is a dark square. Drafts are played on the dark fields. Place the checkers on the black squares on the last 4 rows of each player. White starts and makes the first move. The players then take turns making a move.

Basic rules

- A checker can only be moved forward one square.
- A checker that crosses the checkerboard becomes a king.
- A king is moved diagonally forward or diagonally back one or more squares.

Hit

If there is an opponent's checker next to your checker and there is an empty space behind it, that stone can be captured. So you put your stone over it and remove the opponent's stone from the board.
- A disc can skip forward and backward.
- A king can strike back and forth. You don't have to put the king right behind the last captured man after the trick.
- Spanking is mandatory.
- Multiple strokes take precedence.
- If you can capture the same number of pieces with a king and with a man, you may choose. So: checkers don't come first!
- Only after capturing you may take the captured pieces from the board.
- Note: a checker that passes the other side of the checkerboard during capture, but has to go back to capture more checkers, remains a checker.
- While capturing, you may not cross the same piece twice. Twice over the same empty field.

Continue

- Touching is a move: if you touch a king or checker with which you can make a legal move, you must make a move with that piece.
- If your opponent makes a move that is not according to the rules of the game (for example, he forgets to capture, or he captures too few pieces), it is sporty to tell him that and have him put back. But you can also just keep playing.

The winner

Whoever can no longer make a move has lost the game. If no one can win anymore, then it is a draw. Note: it can also be a draw if you and your opponent do not have the same number of pieces!
